ÖTZI COPPER AXE 10am-4pm
*MAXIMUM NUMBER FOR THIS WORKSHOP IS 6*
Join professional prehistoric reproductions caster and master swords smith Neil Burridge to learn about Ötzi the Icemans copper axe and make your own replica.
Using a charcoal fuelled furnace and leather bellows, you will melt copper and pour the molten metal to cast your own axe head in your prepared mould.
Ötzi lived during the Copper Age and his mummified body was found with many personal items melting out from a glacier near the border of Italy and Austria. His copper axe has been considered to be the most important item of his equipment. This axe provides a fascinating window on this time in prehistory - both the sophisticated technology and the material culture.
