Mesolithic Amber Pendants
*MAXIMUM NUMBER FOR THIS WORKSHOP IS 8*
This workshop is led by experimental archaeologist and heritage education specialist Vanessa Bunton. She frequently runs workshops and demonstrations in many prehistoric sites and well-known museums such as the British Museum.
The day will start with a short talk covering our current understanding of this time period and a the amber artefacts that have been discovered around the world. It will be an informal talk with lots of scope for open discussion. There will also be replica and real artefacts to accompany this talk.
Attendees will then be able to choose their own piece of raw Baltic amber to authentically craft into a pendant using a selection of period accurate tools. Alongside crafting the pendants, there will be an introduction to cordage making and everyone will process plants to make their own cordage. A selection of mineral pigments and bone beads will be available for added decoration.
The pendants made on this workshop are the participants own to take home.
Guidance will be on-hand at all times.
