Prehistoric Fish Leather Saturday 17th July 2021 10am - 4pm
Prehistoric Fish Leather.
Learn to turn fish skins into leather. Utilising ancient tools & techniques, you will process and tan fish skins into a tough, durable leather. You will be guided by professional archaeologist and ancient skills tutor Will Attard, learning about fish and marine resource use in the Mesolithic period.
There will be opportunities to handle a range of replica prehistoric artefacts alongside archaeological material, with in depth discussion of both the archaeological evidence and demonstration of the practical skills involved in the skin working process.
All participants will produce their own pieces of fish leather to take home, with the opportunity to work it further into pouches using replica bone, antler & stone tools.
