Trace this ancient craft from its prehistoric origins to its recent craft revival (and inclusion on the Red List of Endangered Crafts) whilst learning four different stitches including simple looping, Tarim stitch, York stitch and Oslo stitch. You will make sample swatches and begin a larger project you can continue at home.

The simple looping is known from Mesolithic and Neolithic sites but it is most famous from early Medieval examples though. In this workshop we will be concentrating on the prehistoric time period with some examples from Roman Egypt, and then Viking/early medieval to cover a wide date range.

This workshop is led by experimental archaeologists and historical crafts people Sally Pointer and Gareth Riseborough.
